Dean's Study Tour

Approving Authority:
Vice-Chancellor's Advisory Committee
Date of Approval:
27 January 1999
Last Amended:

Contact Officer:
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic)

Background

Deans may undertake a major study tour or tours during their term of office in lieu of an entitlement to SSP. To date there has been no policy on the administration of the study tour entitlement.

Policy Statement

Recognising that Deans do not qualify for standard SSP leave, and except where otherwise determined by the Vice-Chancellor on the recommendation of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Deans may apply to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) for a contribution to overseas travel expenses for study tours once every three years. Each study tour will not exceed eight weeks. The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) will determine the amount of contribution based on:

  • The merit of the application in terms of potential value to UNSW
  • The duration and cost of the study tour
The maximum contribution for any study tour will be:

  • The cost of business class travel for the Dean to the specified locations; plus
  • A contribution towards living expenses of up to $2500 depending on the duration of the study tour.
