Vice-Chancellor's Award for Teaching & Supervision Excellence

Nominations Open

Nominations are invited for the 2009 Vice-Chancellor’s Awards for Teaching Excellence and Initiatives that Enhance Learning and Supervision Excellence.

The Vice-Chancellor’s Awards for Teaching and Supervision Excellence are intended to encourage and reward excellence in teaching and research supervision.

The awards will be allocated each year for:

Teaching

  • teaching excellence (up to six awards)
  • excellence in sessional teaching (general) (up to one award)
  • excellence in sessional teaching (tutors and laboratory demonstrators) (up to two awards)
  • initiatives that enhance learning (up to three awards)
  • Heinz Harant award for teaching innovation
Supervision

  • excellence in postgraduate research supervision (up to two awards)
Assistance and advice

Learning & Teaching @ UNSW can provide assistance and advice to applicants.

Resources available on their website may be of assistance, including information on developing a case for teaching excellence and other worksheets specifically created to assist in completing an application for this award.

Information Session on the Vice-Chancellor’s Teaching Awards Program

An information session has been organised for potential applicants and Heads of Schools. The session will provide an outline of the various wards for 2009 and the revised process that will be used for the assessment for such awards.

The information session will be held on Friday 31 July from 9.30am-11.30am in the Council Chamber. For additional information regarding this information session please contact L&T@UNSW by email (lt@unsw.edu.au) or on ext 55989

Lodgement

A copy of the documentation should be submitted to the Head of School by Friday 4 September 2009 for a report, and Human Resources by Friday 11 September for Faculty Committee consideration

The final application must be lodged with Human Resources by Tuesday 6 October 2009.

Supervision Awards

The UNSW Vice-Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence in Postgraduate Research Supervision recognise and encourage sustained excellence in postgraduate research supervision. Applications are now open for the 2009 awards. Up to two awards are allocated each year. Each award consists of the presentation of an engraved medallion and the award of a sum of $7,500 (the monetary component of the award is subject to taxation). All academic staff, either full time or part time, who have supervised at least three research higher degree students to completion as a supervisor are eligible to apply for the award. Academic staff who have previously received a supervision award are not eligible to re-apply for the same award for six years.
