The University has a commitment to open reporting with regard to the performance of its staff.
Clause 30.0 of the UNSW (General Staff) Enterprise Agreement 2006 and Clause 27.0 of the UNSW (Academic Staff) Enterprise Agreement 2006 state that:
"an employee will be able to view their Personnel File and should be advised of
any adverse reports or documents relating to performance placed on that file".
Supervisors should be aware that in assessing the performance of a staff member the staff member should be shown any reports and provided with the opportunity to comment on them, in writing. Supervisors should contact the Industrial Relations Advisory Unit for any advice in relation to the performance of a staff member.

Referee reports associated with the recruitment process are excepted from the requirements in the enterprise agreements as they are obtained in confidence.

Access to Personnel Files

A staff member wishing to examine their personnel file should contact Human Resources to make an appointment. Upon presentation of suitable identification, the staff member can view their file in the presence of a Human Resources representative and may request copies of documentation, have a correction made to the file or that additional information be included.

The University does not disclose personnel files or information to third parties without the employee's consent, except when the University may be legally required to do so.
