Lab Safety

Laboratory Operations at UNSW

The type of research and teaching and their related hazards undertaken within UNSW laboratories is as diverse as are the staff and students who work within them. Unfortunately there is no "one size fits all" safety manual. The size and complexity of the system required to manage risks depends upon the number, variety and the level of risk posed by your activities. For this reason we have developed tool to assist laboratoris in creating their own Laboratory Safety Manuals. The Laboratory Safety Manual Template (LSM Template) and Laboratory Safety Manual Guideline (LSM Guideline) have been developed to cover a broad range of activities but mainly to provide you with the structure to assist you to manage the risk to the health and safety of the staff and students working in the laboratory. The Laboratory Manager and the personnel working in the laboratory need to tailor the LSM Template to your laboratory activities and risks.
