Academic Research Staff - Appointment of INFORMATION PAPER
Clause 16.0(d) of the UNSW (Academic Staff) Enterprise Agreement 2006 (the Academic Agreement) states that:
The above guidelines are contained in Schedule 6 of the UNSW (Academic Staff) Enterprise Agreement 2003. A copy of the guidelines can be obtained by clicking here.
Categories of research staff listed in clause 1 of Schedule 6 will be recognised as academics. Other research positions will be considered academic if they meet any one of the four criteria below. These staff will therefore be covered by the terms of the academic Agreement and be entitled to the conditions of employment enjoyed by academic staff.
Otherwise, research positions such as Research Assistants, Research Officers, or Senior Research Officers will be designated general staff positions and covered by general staff conditions of employment.
Criteria for status as academic research staff
One of the following criteria should be met for an employee undertaking research only duties to be appointed as a member of academic staff. The person:

Academic research staff will have titles according to their standing against the usual academic levels A to E as follows:

Australian Research Council Funded Positions
National Health and Medical Research Council Funded Positions
Other UNSW Positions
Vice-Chancellor's fellowships
Post Doctoral Research Fellows Senior Research Fellows * indicates that academic Level will be determined on appointment
** indicates that academic status dependent on satisfying one of the four criteria above. |
