Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Experimental Condensed-Matter Physics
Faculty of Science
SCHOOL OF PHYSICS
REF. 5382NET
The School of Physics is a leading centre for physics research and teaching in Australia. Current research strengths are in the areas of condensed-matter physics, theoretical physics, astrophysics and optics, biophysics and musical acoustics, and environmental and applied physics. Teaching extends to a full Honours (Physics) program, Advanced Science Physics degrees and approximately 2000 students per year enrolled in science and engineering programs. Class sizes range from small group teaching (10-20 students) through to large lecture groups (100-250).
The School is committed to providing a stimulating environment which promotes excellence and innovation in the fields of our research strengths. This appointment is a part of a broader initiative in the area of condensed-matter physics, strongly correlated electron systems and novel materials.
The Bragg Institute at the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO), is an international leader in neutron beam and X-ray science. It has 30 research staff, along with 10 postdoctoral fellows and substantial technical support. There are significant additional collaborations with other scientific Institutes at ANSTO, and a number of formal partnerships with external organizations in Australia and overseas. The Institute is the primary scientific and user interface to the new 20-MW OPAL Research Reactor. There is also a close relationship between the Institute and the new 3-GeV Australian Synchrotron in Melbourne. The School of Physics, in conjunction with the Bragg Institute, is establishing this position as part of a new initiative.
The salary range for Lecturer is A$71,779 - A$84,618 per annum; Senior Lecturer is A$87,182 - A$100,022 per annum; and for Associate Professor is A$104,301 - A$114,569 per annum depending on qualifications and experience (plus up 17% employer superannuation contributions plus leave loading).
