Technical Officer/Senior Technical Officer

Fixed Term: Salary Level 6/7: A $58K - A$69K per year (plus up to 17% employer superannuation plus leave loading).
Applications are invited for the role of Technical Officer / Senior Technical Officer in the Bioanalytical Mass Spectrometry Facility, UNSW Analytical Centre.
This role manages the day-to-day operation of Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry instrumentation and associated wet laboratory areas at BMSF's Lower Campus Laboratory, providing training and data interpretation to instrument users. The Laboratory is equipped with two new Thermo DSQ II GC/MS systems, a Finnigan TSQ 7000 tandem quadrupole and two HP1090 liquid chromatographs. A third DSQ II, a Thermo TSQ Quantum and a new analytical / semi-preparative scale HPLC will be installed in the laboratory during 2008. Applicants should have an honours or masters degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Life Sciences or a related discipline and practical experience with Gas or Liquid Chromatography. Experience with mass spectrometers, particularly GC/MS and/or a PhD using mass spectrometry will be viewed as a significant advantage.

This is a fixed term, full-time appointment for 3 years, with good prospects for renewal.
