Advertising Practices

Advertising the Position

All advertisments will now appear on Jobs@UNSW in new "Web Ad " format.

Advertisments appearing in The Sydney Morning Herald or The Australian composites will appear in condensed title style.

Affiliated Organisations of UNSW

Affiliated Organisations are those organisations which are associated with, or operate in partnership with UNSW. For examples of affiliated organisations of UNSW who are allowed to advertise on Jobs@UNSW: see: http://www.disconnect.unsw.edu.au/misso/afforg/orglist.htm

Broadbanded Positions (General Staff ONLY)

In the first instance please contact your HR Consultant, who will assist you to develop an appropriate position description. Broadbanded position descriptions must clearly identify the duties and/or accountabilities at each classification level, as well as the review process and skill development requirements for progression between levels.

Whilst there is no requirement to develop different selection criteria for each level in a broadbanded position, this practice is encouraged to assist you in managing applicant expectations and the appointment decision.

Casual Positions

Marketing Services are responsible for placing all media advertising for UNSW. You may also contact Careers & Employment to place casual/temp positions on their website.

You may also wish to consult a list of CVs managed by the Resources Development Worker, NSW Gender Centre   by phoning: 9569 2366 or faxing: 9569 1176

Costs

Marketing Services  will provide costs once proofs for the advertisment have been prepared.

There is no charge for advertising on Jobs@UNSW.

Internal Applicants only

  • Underpinning this policy is the University's commitment to creating staff development and career enhancement opportunities for general staff.
  • Deadlines for these advertisements remain the same as for other positions.
  • Advertisements are advertised on Jobs@UNSW website only.
An internal applicant shall mean for the purpose of this Policy, any employee who at the time of advertising a position is on:
  • A continuing appointment
  • A fixed term contract of any length

Readvertising Positions

If a position has been advertised internally only, advertising it externally and extending the closing date is strongly recommended. If it has been advertised both internally and externally and still no suitable candidate has been found, it may be necessary to re-draft the position description and/or re-write the advertisement and advertise it elsewhere.

Temporary Vacancies

Recruitment Advertising do not deal with temporary vacancies. It is suggested that the School/Unit contact: Careers & Employment OR arrange temporary staff through a recruitment agency. (Refer to preferred agencies under budget unit heads guidelines)
