Procedural Guidelines

The University’s recruitment advertising guidelines have been established in order to meet two key objectives: attracting the best qualified applicants, and minimising associated advertising costs.

The Faculty HR Consultant is responsible for placement of all recruitment advertising. Where necessary, the Faculty HR Consultant will edit WEBADs so that they are in-keeping with the University’s advertising specifications.

As appropriate, the University will recruit from within and outside of its workforce to source the best possible applicants. To enable career development opportunities for suitable UNSW staff, internal recruitment may be a valid option as long as it is consistent with equity principles and results in a pool of suitably qualified applicants.

The Faculty HR Consultant can advise on a wide range of recruitment advertising matters, including advertising deadlines. They can also coordinate specialist advice on media placement via Marketing Services.

Marketing Services is responsible for:

  • recommended advertisement placement
  • media publication dates
  • media deadlines
  • advertisement costs
  • coordination of large-scale recruitment advertising campaigns.
1. Initiating the Recruitment Process:

To initiate recruitment action for general and academic positions, Faculty/Department Heads must complete the following documentation:

These documents should be seen and discussed with your Faculty HR Consultant before they will submit documentation for internally funded positions to the Executive Team, or externally funded positions for advertising in the media and/or Jobs@UNSW.

It is the responsibility of the Faculty/School to develop the WEBAD/position description in consultation with the Faculty HR Consultant to ensure that the selection criteria specified in the WEBAD is relevant and consistent to the level of the position, and in accordance with merit-based recruitment and selection principles.

4. Advertising Placement:

HR will upload all advertisements on the Jobs@UNSW website by Friday afternoon.

Marketing Services will be responsible for coordinating and placement of all media advertising.

For equity and consistency purposes, advertising on the Jobs@UNSW webpage will be coordinated to coincide with the timing of any other print/website advertising requested for each individual position.

Specialist Website advertising is the responsibility of the relevant School/Unit.
See Where to Advertise.
