Supporting staff to manage family, caring and community responsibilities

UNSW is committed to helping staff balance work-life responsibilities, by providing access to high quality services, facilities, and flexible work and leave arrangements, where possible.

There are many stages in life where staff might be interested in negotiating flexible work arrangements. Arrangements such as converting from full-time to part-time for a defined period, or flexible hours and work locations, may assist in this process. Most frequently, these situations occur when parents are returning from parental leave or have young children at school. However, there are many other circumstances where flexible work arrangements may be beneficial too. These include, transition to retirement, adoption of volunteer work, community or sporting activities, the onset of or recovery from an illness, study engagements or caring for a family member.

This section covers seven major topics relevant to parents, carers and employees who may wish to investigate flexible work and leave options.
