When recruiting at UNSW, a selection committee is established to conduct the selection process (short listing, interviews etc.). There are two sets of requirements when forming a selection committee: general and specific.
 
The general guidelines apply to all positions (regardless of level or classification) and are:
  • At least one male and one female, with gender balance as far as possible;
  • One staff member external to the immediate work unit (depending on the level of the position);
  • At least one member having completed merit based Recruitment and Selection training at UNSW;
  • All members at or above the level of the advertised position, however, a person may be included at a lower level where they are specialist in the field or would otherwise bring real benefit to the process;
  • As far as possible, representation from a particular EEO group where the position is: identified for a member of an EEO group; the duties of the position include significant interaction with staff/students from the EEO group; and
  • Where a search firm has been engaged, a representative from the search firm should normally attend the shortlist meeting and may attend the interview (although such persons do not have voting rights).
The specific requirements for Academic positions depend on the individual position (level, seniority) and are detailed in the table below.
