  • Professorial Superannuation Fund*.
*Note: The State Authorities Superannuation Scheme, State Superannuation Scheme, Special Purposes Superannuation Scheme and Professorial Superannuation Fund are closed to new members.

The University offers superannuation to all new staff and for some staff, membership is compulsory.

Staff under UniSuper were originally enrolled into the Defined Benefit Division but now have the option of transferring to the Accumulation Super 2 Plan. Transferring to the Accumulation Super 2 Plan allows staff to nominate under what scheme they wish for their superannuation contribution to be managed:

  • Capital Stable
  • Conservative Balanced
  • Balanced
  • Growth
  • Socially Responsible Shares

Staff appointed prior to 30 June 1991

Staff who were employed by the University as at 30 June 1991 and who have had continuous unbroken service (whether continuing or fixed term) can maintain the options availed to them for superannuation purposes at that time. This means that if superannuation membership was not compulsory, this option would still apply and all future letters of offer will specify superannuation membership as voluntary.
Note: the initial letter of appointment will indicate the original superannuation options

State Superannuation Scheme & State Authorities Superannuation Scheme

For appointees who are current members of a scheme managed by Pillar Administration, provisions are available for transfering, retaining benefits and continuing contributions.
  • Employee contributions cannot be salary sacrificed.
  • In the State Superannuation Scheme additional contributions may be paid to Unisuper's Accumulation Super 1 Plan (previously known as Award Plus Plan) and salary sacrificed.
  • New staff who are current contributors from a previous employer are eligible to transfer membership to UNSW as long as the break in service is not longer than 3 months.
Note: Fixed term appointees who are converted to 'continuing' status will maintain superannuation options as per the fixed term position.

Superannuation Guarantee Contribution (SGC)

For all staff contributing to a superannuation fund, the University contributes 3% of salary to Unisuper's Accumulation Super 1 Plan (previously known as Award Plus Plan). All new employees are automatically members of the Accumulation Super 1 Plan. The Accumulation Super 1 Plan also accepts additional voluntary contributions from members and voluntary contributions may be made by way of salary sacrifice.
For staff not contributing to a superannuation fund including casual staff, the University contributes 9% of salary to Unisuper's Accumulation Super 1 Plan (previously known as Award Plus Plan).
